The 2026 program uses a smaller quarterly budget of 10,000 EUR, limits developers to one grant application per quarter, and is focusing more strongly on documentation, testing, release-cycle improvements, bug fixing, and permanent positions.
That is a useful signal about FreeCAD’s maturity. After the 1.0 and 1.1 releases, funding is not only about new features; it is also about the less glamorous work that makes a large free software CAD/BIM platform easier to maintain and trust.
